Those very clever people over at Moz.com published the Local Search Ranking Factors recently (April 2017)
This shows all the factors that we believe determine how well you rank in the local listings. For those of interested it also shows you shows how these have changed since 2015.
Basically, the key findings are:
- You MUST have you Google My Business profiles set up properly. This is the single biggest factor though not by much.
- Citations are almost as important – making the accurate and consistent use of Name, Address, Phone (NAP) on any directory or external sites crucial
- Location matters. The closest you are to the searcher the better your chances
- Links to your site are still a strong signal
- Reviews matter!
