New Google Index Algorithm
You may have heard that Google is rolling out an update that will focus on mobile websites and rank you accordingly.
Currently Google scans your website (desktop version) to judge where to rank you in its search engine results pages. Thus it has been very important to have good content on your website
This is still the case… BUT…things are about to change a bit.
Specifically where they look to find your website content. Google have said…
“Our search index will continue to be a single index of websites and apps, our algorithms will eventually primarily use the mobile version of a site’s content to rank pages from that site.”
In other words – It will no longer be based on the content that is shown to desktops..
When Will this fully role out?
“Google said they have already begun testing this mobile-first index to some users. But it looks like we are still months away from this fully rolling out. Google won’t give us a date because they are still testing the rollout, and if things go well, they may push it sooner. If things do not go well, they may push it back.
Google did say they will push this out to more and more searchers over time as they become more confident with the mobile-first index.”
- Make sure your website is mobile responsive. Do this now. It is a priority
- If you have a responsive website that shows the same content to desktop and mobile visitors than your should be fine (so far)
- If you are using a different website for mobile than you are for desktop then be aware that it is the MOBILE version that will be looked at and which will determine your rankings. Make sure it shows the content you want google to see or else your rankings will be impacted. ( Might be better to switch to a single responsive website if that is possible)
Many people have a cut down version of their main website specifically made for mobile users. This was once a good idea as they generally load quicker but now .. not so much.
